Support Worker (Aged Care)

Overview

Responsible For

  • Assist clients with daily activities such as bathing, dressing, and grooming.
  • Provide companionship and emotional support.
  • Support mobility and transfers using hoists or other equipment.
  • Administer medication under supervision.
  • Maintain accurate records and report changes in client conditions

Specific Skills

Technical Skills:
  • Personal Care: Hands-on experience assisting with hygiene and mobility.
  • Health Monitoring: Observing and reporting on client well-being.
  • Safety Procedures: Knowledge of manual handling and infection control.
  • Meal Preparation: Preparing and assisting with feeding as required.
  • Documentation: Maintaining accurate care logs and reports.
Interpersonal Skills:
  • Communication: Clear verbal and written communication with clients and families.
  • Empathy: Providing compassionate care and emotional support.
  • Team Collaboration: Working effectively with healthcare teams.
  • Conflict Resolution: Managing and resolving concerns with patience.

Educational Requirements

Certifications (Required/Preferred):
  • Certificate III or IV in Individual Support (Aged Care/Disability)
  • First Aid & CPR Certification
  • Manual Handling Training
Bachelor’s Degree (Preferred):
  • Nursing
  • Aged Care
  • Disability Support
  • Social Work
